Lite-headedness

Some Christ-followers are careless about learning the truths of the faith. Like fans of low-calorie versions of food and drink, they subsist on a “lite” understanding of biblical truth. They have succumbed to the spiritual ailment of “lite-headedness.”

The antidote is the renewal of our minds by the Word of God.

The Bible repeatedly underscores the vital importance of God’s truth. The word of truth is essential for salvation (Romans 10:8-15). Understanding the truth is transformative (Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:20-24; John 8:32). God’s truth stirs hope (Ephesians 1:18), assures fruitfulness (Psalm 1:1-3), builds strength and courage (Joshua 1:7-9), and protects us in times of temptation (Psalm 119:11; Ephesians 6:10-20).

Ways to get a strong grip on the truth of God are readily accessible!

  • When we hear God’s Word preached, we get a strong dose of truth.

  • When we read our Bible regularly, we get a time-release capsule of truth.

  • When we participate in a small group, we get a steady regimen of truth.

  • When we study the Bible, we take an effective prescription for truth.

  • When we memorize portions of Scripture, we get a vaccination of truth.

Mostly likely, all of us could do better, and we might feel guilty. A more helpful response is to decide on one or two ways to absorb more of God’s truth and to build these practices into our regular routines.

When we hear the Word of Jesus and put this truth into practice, we are like a wise man who builds his house on the rock. Rains come, streams rise, and winds blow and beat against our house, but we will not fall—because our life is built on the bedrock of truth (Matthew 7:24-25).

Colds and other ailments are common in winter. To the extent we can, we take precautions against them. Even so, we usually manage to “catch” something. There are spiritual ailments to which we are susceptible any time of year. Whether we are afflicted by Affluenza, Drift, Grumps, Lite-headedness, or Sensualitis, God has provided a remedy for every spiritual malady.
